Deep Dive

Overview

The Pepperell Landfill Community Solar Project seeks to the develop a community solar photovoltaic array at the Town’s former landfill, located at 66 Boynton Street in Pepperell.  Covering about 6 acres of a 66-acre parcel owned by the Town, the landfill was capped and closed in 1998. The Town continues to operate a waste transfer and recycling station adjacent to the landfill.

Current Status

A project is underway to:

1. Review the types of community solar ownership structures allowable in Mass.
2. Review any electricity usage data onsite
3. Develop potential site-level PV system configurations
4. Determine the energy and bill savings associated with system configurations by Community Solar business model
5. Recommend and draft an RFP template for the most beneficial community solar ownership model

Our expectation is to have a final report by our consultant by late July / early August.  We hope to have an implementation plan in place and possibly start receiving quotes by the end of the year.
